I'm Ian, Owner & Coach at Union Ellenbrook. I had a busy life, a successful career, two energetic children and had neglected my health for years. I knew that something had to change, but I needed something that worked for me. When we opened Union in 2021 we built it with a vision which wasn't about creating great athletes. It was about helping ordinary people discover they're capable of extraordinary things.

I'm really unfit. Should I get fitter before I join?
Absolutely not. In fact, that's exactly why we're here. You don't need to lose weight, improve your fitness or "get in shape" before starting. Every member who walks through our doors starts somewhere, and every workout is tailored to your current ability. Whether it's your first workout in years or your first workout ever, our coaches will guide you every step of the way. The hardest part is walking through the door.. We'll help with everything after that.
I've heard CrossFit is only for really fit people. Is that true?
Not at all. CrossFit isn't about being the fittest person in the room—it's about becoming a little fitter than you were yesterday. Every workout can be scaled to suit your experience, fitness level, mobility and any previous injuries. In the same class, one person might be learning their first squat while another is preparing for competition. Everyone trains together, but everyone trains at the level that's right for them.
What if I don't know how to lift weights or use gym equipment?
That's exactly why every session is coach-led. We'll teach you proper technique, explain every movement and make sure you feel confident before adding intensity. You'll never be left wondering what to do next or trying to copy someone else. Our job is to coach. Your job is simply to show up.
Will I be the oldest or least fit person in the class?
Almost certainly not. Our members come from all walks of life and all fitness levels. Many joined us after years away from exercise, while others are balancing busy careers, raising families or returning from injury. There are no mirrors, no egos and no expectation to "keep up". Everyone remembers what it was like to be new, and you'll be welcomed from day one.
I've joined gyms before and always stopped going. What makes Union different?

From your very first class you'll have expert coaches, structured programming, progress tracking, accountability and a supportive community helping you stay consistent. You're not left to figure things out on your own. Because lasting results don't come from motivation. They come from having the right support around you.
I have an old injury or physical limitations. Can I still train?
In most cases, yes. Our coaches work with people of all ages, abilities and training backgrounds. Every workout can be modified to suit injuries, mobility restrictions or medical considerations while still helping you make progress safely. We'll get to know you, understand your goals and adapt your training so you can move with confidence. If you're unsure, come in for a chat and we'll talk through the best approach together.
I don't have much time. How often do I need to train?
Consistency always beats perfection. For most people, training three to four times per week is enough to see significant improvements in strength, fitness and overall health. With early morning, daytime and evening classes, plus 24/7 Studio access, we'll help you build a routine that fits around your work, family and lifestyle—not the other way around.
